Back! So the week before this show I was in Hawaii, giving presentations galore on engineering. My partner & I made pump-up CDs to listen to in the rental cars, and the second set is taken from these amazing CDs. ha. And let's see.. the 3rd set is made up of songs from the TV show 'Friday Night Lights,' because I got really into that over break, haha, and it has pretty good music on it!

And this.. was the show before Thanksgiving break. It was interesting, I guess. Pseudo random. The night before I had been in what could only be described as a Pinkerton mood, although this can mean many things for me, but yeah. I love that stuff.

yay fundraising! annnnd yay birthday! yes, this lovely day coincided with my 20th bday, neat. last year's fundraising was a little sad because i tried to make an awesome show but then no one pledged because oh it was from 2-4 am. so i was trying to be a bit more optimistic this year. anyway, it was an ok show, and i raised about $180. cool! also, my little sister said that she loved every song :)

Welllp let's see. This was an interesting show - I described the music as eclectic. I was in a funny, ie meh, mood when I was making it. But apparently it was ok - my dad was like, I actually liked it. Which is fairly insulting but yeah. This week's giveaway was another pair of tickets to see the lovely Darjeeling Limited.

Next week is... Fundraising Week! So exciting. It also happens to be my 20th (!) bday that day. So I really hope that I get some pledges this time - last year I didn't get any, but the 2-4 slot wasn't so conducive to that. And my family is going to at least pledge, haha. But yeah I hope it will be good!!!!

Oh yeah and concerts - New Pornographers were really good! They were really great live, if not especially chatty, and they played basically all of my favorite songs except The Jessica Numbers, ah well. They played my friend's favorite and he was ecstatic. They had maracas that looked like fruit! :) ANNNNND ok so last Friday I was running the BU loop and as I went by BU, I saw a poster for a free Kevin Devine concert that evening. I definitely did a triple-take, and then ran faster than I probably ever have back to my dorm to get more info. It was at BU Central, free, so I went there that night and ahhhhh it was amazing! I've never seen him headline, only open (for Matt Pond PA & Brand New), so this was a totally new experience. It was quite possibly the most fun show that I have ever been to. He played for about 2 hrs, and just told funny stories, played a dozen or more cover songs, and was awesome. Such a great great time :) He's playing at TT's the 10th, but only opening, so we'll see if I end up going. Yay!

HEY! I'm back for another season :) For now, the show is still called 'Hook Heavy.' Frankly I'm a bit over this, haha, but I couldn't come up with anything that felt right before all the WMBR official stuff was put out, so I'll just stick with it for this semester. But look for it to change next season. Maybe. Hopefully.

Anyway, I'm on the same day, different time. MONDAY 6-7!! Right after the news. Very exciting. It's been pretty good so far - maybe not quite as many listeners as last semester, but that's hard to gauge because I think there are a lot of car listeners, and we can't track those :P I do get a fair amount of phone calls, though, and those are fun! I love when people just call in to find out the name of a song or band because they really liked it. Success!

Also, this year I'm having some friends come in occasionally to co-host, etc. This has been attempted twice and worked pseudo-successfully once, haha. More to come?

yeah! last show. however, what SUCKED was the fact that my 2.004 final actually went into the show time, and I was unable to switch with anyone, so basically the final ended at 4:30 and i *ran* to the station and managed to play a few songs, but it was really sad :( i would have liked to have done something cool for the final show. sigh. another instance of suckage was the fact that my dad was driving into boston at about this time, and turned on the radio only to hear the show *after* me, which was only about 20 mins long, so basically he barely missed hearing me live on the radio [not streaming]. it still kills me.

Oh yeah and all of these songs were ones that helped me to study for finals. Etc.

Ah, I definitely remember this day. It was the first rididculously nice day, I think, or at least the first one I was able to take advantage of [damn you 2.007 for taking away all of my time from 8:30-4:30 most days]. This was my first show of the brand spankin' new schedule, with my new gorgeous time of 4-5 pm. it's a really solid time, i feel like i have some car listeners, and i can see that more people are streaming than used to last season, so that's awesome. i gave out a pair of tix on this show, to ben kweller/gomez, and it turned into giving out 2 pairs because i felt bad, haha.

I'm looking at the iTunes playlist now, and I'm pretty sure this was a show when the person after me was super late because they forget about the new schedule, so i think i stayed on until 5:15 or so, and the playlist is longer because of that. i of course adlibbed the rest, so it's a bit random, and i'll mark where the show was designed to end, etc.

ummm this is the night that i distinctly remember as being the one when the emergency broadcasting thing went off. that is, in the middle of the oasis song, big red flashing lights went out in the control room (Me? no freakin idea what was going on!!!! so scared, haha), and the EBS thing took over. an experience, to say the least. i also remember this show as when a few random people messaged me online, so that was fun... quite enjoyable, it was nice to know that people were listening :)

also, this was the show after that saturday's Matt Pond PA concert at Axis. tickets c/o the station, the first time i had utilized that. it was a really good concert; i discovered a really great artist, Kevin Devine, an opener. good stuff.

this show also featured the superb song 'come on eileen' :D

yayyyy i am finally able to log onto this! long story short, had to erase everything on my laptop (able to salvage music, documents, pictures; but lost saved passwords, away msgs, all settings, playlists, etc), and i definitely managed to forget the login name for this blog. there was much confusion on my part, but i think that's better. but anways, it's now 2007, and i have five or six playlists to post, haha. talk about procrastination... but here's the furthest back,

just remembered that this was my first feeble attempt at a pseudo-concept show... that is, it was before thanksgiving so i had a song featuring the word 'turkey,' haha, and i had some fire-centric songs because my dorm had had a fire alarm earlier that night. but then during the show i realized that i had threeee songs with the word 'fire' in the title, and that just felt too iffy to me. it freaked me out a bit, so i only played 2 of the songs :)

Here is the playlist, buds. It was actually Halloween, but only the wee hours, so I sadly did not do anything special in terms of that. It was a pretty solid show though... I got a couple requests [including a really awesome, perfect one from the 70s but it went so well with everything else that I was playing :)], and Dugan was my babysitter, and it was all good-ish. I also mentioned the fact that my Mom had told me not to say 'um' as much on the air, and moments after, a guy called and basically gave me an infomercial over the phone about some lectures and stuff that he has that will make me say 'um' less, lol. grreeeeat. oh yeah and there were also a few technical difficulties with this show :)

woohoo, really late playlist posting 2/2! this is for show FOUR. very nice. I actually thought this one was my best to date.. i guess I just thought it was a good mix of songs, like they were all fairly different, and I had some decent dialogue blah going on, too. most facts/interesting tibdits care of wikipedia :D And I got basically 4 requests... 1 before the show from a friend, 2 from friends who stayed up, one from an actual caller (woo!), and that call was actually a dedication (ooh la la, i know :P) it was up to me to choose an appropriate song, based on his description of the situation, and I think I did well :)

can i just apologize for taking so long to update this?? haha.. but yeah, i'm 3 shows behind right now, and i'm going to try to remedy that. asap.

here's the deal for the 3rd show... I only got one call, I believe, from my friend Schmidty and kind of his roommate too, and he/they requested misc things, from which i chose a death cab for cutie song. [seeing them tomorrow with ted leo & the pharmacists...woo!!!! :)]

but yeah, as I was typing this out, I remembered a bit more about the show. It was kind of the remnants of the last week's playlist, plus new stuff [the week before was when my laptop was a no go and I had to ad-lib with CDs basically. but it was good because now I'm more comfortable with using CDs, in fact I love :P]. Mmk, recap of the second show. In planning, at first I had a really crap playlist. Like just uninspired and meh. But then I got more into it and ended up making a playlist that I was really happy with. It even was pseudo-themed... a lot of songs featuring piano, even a few purely instrumental songs. I liked it a lot. BUT it didn't happen. We couldn't get my laptop to hook up to the board etc, because I think the wire was crap or something. But in any case, we didn't realize that until right before I was supposed to start the show, sooo the people before me just kept playing the CD that was in [I believe Sigur Ros], while I ran around the record stash desperately trying to find CDs that I had actually heard of before.. not always an easy task! It was sad, because they didn't have a lot of things that I had wanted to play.

Sooo I went on about 25 minutes late, and just winged it. I was able to keep a few of the sets that I had planned out, others I just threw together. I think it ended up turning out alright, but it was very stressful and I didn't say much other than the song titles, because I was trying to keep the CD players straight and pick songs to play and yeah. Twas interesting.. Oh yeah, and I also got my first call-in... it was a guy named Paul, at 3:34 am, and I couldn't tell whether he was like a maintenance worker or just a random person. Either way, he was Italian, he liked what I was playing, and on his 3rd call [haha], he said "I'm a little drunk, but this is good mood music." Whatever that means. :)

So I had my very first [official] show last night/this morning. I think it went pretty well, although there's a chance that I swore at one point after I cut a song off a tiny bit and yeah. Meh, it happens. I guess. And unfortunately the WMBR website was down, so the show wasn't streaming live, so misc non-MIT friends couldn't listen. Meh.

hmm I might as well put something here, to start this thing..

so this site is basically devoted to my brand new radio show. i'll use it to post playlists from past shows, essentially. and maybe other random stuff, i'm not sure.

i'm realllly excited about having a show... this is the kind of thing that i've always said i wanted to do, etc, but also the kind of thing that all too often never happens. wellll maybe things are changing? i can only hope!

i'm also extremely excited about getting to check out the radio station's record collection... all the new music i'm going to have.. it will be amazing! and you guys [my loyal listeners?? :)] will of course benefit.

well that's all i've got for now, folks, it's time for me to watch tv or something :)

btw... i'm super nervous about my first show! :D
